Chairman, Spanish Nuclear Safety Council visits BAERA Chairman Mr. Luis Fernadu Marti Scharfhausen and Head of International Regulatory body Dr. Alfredo Balbino de los Reyes of Spanish  Safety Council (CSN) visited Bangladesh on 19-20 November to discuss about bilateral collaboration between CSN and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA). A Bilateral meeting between Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) and Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) was held on November 19 at BAERA head quarter, Dhaka. The meeting was presided by Professor Dr. Naiyyum Chowdhury, Chairman of BAERA. Two (02) member team led by the Chairman of CSN were present in the meeting. From BAERA side all Members,  Directors and all scientists of NSSD participated in the meeting. Architect Yeafesh Osman, honorable minister of the ministry of science and technology graced the occasion as chief guest. In the meeting BAERA and CSN exchanged their experiences and information regarding nuclear and radiological regulatory infrastructure issues through presentations and discussion. The CSN delegates shared regulatory experiences of their nuclear power plants. At present 07 nuclear power plants are in operation, 01 ceased for commercial operation and 02 is now under decommissioning stage in Spain. The meeting discussed about mutual collaboration between BAERA and CSN and agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU). In this regard, CSN will prepare the draft MoU and send it to BAERA for feedback. The CSN team visited the Rooppur nuclear power plant (RNPP) site at Rooppur, Pabna along with the team of BAERA on November 20. It is noted that, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project (RNPP) is now in construction stage and already got the design and construction license for two units form BAERA. The Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), the Project Director of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project (RNPP), Vice President, Atomstroyexport, Chief Engineer and other project  personnel were present in that visit. During the visit at the nuclear power plant site a joint meeting, in which project director of RNPP and Vice President of Atomstrotexport Mr. Lastoskin shortly briefed the current status of the ongoing activities. The CSN team made an extensive visit to the entire site for observing different construction activities and were very pleased to see the progress of the work and hoped that theconstruction works would be completed as per schedule. The CSN team firmly expressed their satisfaction with the nuclear regulatory activities of Bangladesh and also ongoing construction works of RNPP as well. Moreover, they articulated their gratitude for warm hospitality by the host at site. The CSN team left Dhaka on November 20.
