RNNP Siting Licence Ceremony, organized by Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority on 21/06/2016

The Siting Licence Issuing Ceremony for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, organized by Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority was held on 21 June 2016 at 17.30 hrs. in the Ball Room of Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon, 107 Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Dhaka 1215. Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as Chief Guest. Mr. Md. Serajul Huq Khan, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as Guest of Honour on the occasion. Dr. Mashiur Rahman, Economic Affairs Adviser to the Honorable Prime Minister was present as Special Guest and the occasion was presided over by Professor Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, Chairman, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority. 

 

Commenting the issue of the siting license for the Rooppur NPP, Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury noted that the siting license was just a completion of the intial phase of a long way.

 

Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honorable Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, directed the ceremony attendees’ attention to the fact that the Bangladeshi party is planning to adopt experience and knowledge of not only the Russian counterparts but also India to demonstrate nuclear and radiation safety of the future NPP. In his turn, Alexey Ferapontov emphasized that the public in any country trusts a regulatory authority that has competence and independence to control the compliance with all safety requirements to a facility such as a nuclear plant.

 

“Our cooperation with BAERA is first of all directed to the final formation of the national systems of nuclear energy safety regulation in Bangladesh, which would allow independent and competent decision making, and also complete control of the compliance with safety requirements at all stages of NPP life cycle”.
